Councillor Amanda Sabyan

Question: What made you want to run for councillor again?

A: “I enjoy living in the community and like having family in the community and I like to put the interest of people first.” She said she loves “the sincerity” of a small community and wants to help carry that on.

Question: What do you believe qualifies you to continue serving on council?

A: In the seven years she has worked in council, she said she’s learned how political procedure works.

She’s served on several committees (the Bandshell committee, for example) and works as a server in a restaurant. She said she loves the opportunity this gives her to speak to members of her community and hear their interests and input.

Question: What are the more important issues in Barriere?

A: Sabyan said housing is a big issue in Barriere, rentals specifically.

If someone moved to town and needed an apartment, she said, “That’s definitely something that we’re not able to accommodate at this time.”

Question: What would you like to change?

A: Enticing more businesses to the industrial part of town, especially near Louis Creek, is a big priority of hers. She said they could potentially do this by lowering the price or providing more amenities like water and power to make it more appealing.

She said she’d also like to spend more time looking into contractors they work with, to prevent issues like delayed projects.

Question: Why should people vote for you?

A: “I do have my heart in the District of Barriere,” she said, for the whole community and for the individuals, as well.

“I have worked hard so far and we only learn from our mistakes and get better.
