Councillor Pat Paula

Question: What made you want to run for councillor again?

A: “There are things that I feel still need doing,” she said. The town has so many beautiful places and she said she wants to make them more visible so people will want to stop in and visit. “It’s a really good place for families to settle and a good, safe place to raise your children and so that’s important to me.”

Question: What do you believe qualifies you to continue serving on council?

A: Aside from being a councillor for the past 11 years, Paula has a nursing background, has worked in banking, has been an educator, a small business owner and a coroner. “I have experience in a lot of different realms of public service,” she said. “I’m interested in people and I feel that I have represented the residents here in Barriere with integrity…”

Question: What are the more important issues in Barriere?

A: Paula said cleaning up downtown, creating more housing and bringing infrastructure “up to snuff” are her major priorities.

“I’ve always believed that Barriere can grow and that Barriere is a great place for kids. We have Elementary and Senior Secondary school and I think we have good quality teachers.”

Question: What would you like to change?

A: “Downtown core beautification, I think, is an ongoing wish for the council.” She said developing recreation for the community’s children is always a goal.

Question: Why should people vote for you?

A: “I was on the first council and have been on every subsequent council and have taken a big place in bylaw certification and policies,” she said.

She added that she is “really open to talking to the voting public,” to understand their needs and wants.
