The District of Barriere report they have been successful in getting a grant of $43,600 from the BC Rural Development Program for their Solar Aquatics Water Reclamation Centre (SAWRC) Pilot Project.

The project involves agri-entrepreneurs, volunteers and District staff working together to kick start the Centre’s Operational Sustainability Plan.

Agri-business, education, research and tourism are the four focus areas of the plan that has a long term goal of net-zero operating costs for this unique facility.

The grant monies will be used towards the development/purchase of educational materials and research equipment (including a microscope that can be linked to a computer and TV screen in the lobby for students and tourists viewing) and the development of the District’s solar tank plant program, as well as to assist the first agri-entrepreneurs with some of the infrastructure required for planting within the greenhouse.
