TNRD Area ‘O’ director, Bonnie CruzelleMyram, presented a cheque for $250 to the Barriere Community Quilters last week.

Quilters Kim Keating, Lita Hansen, Rose Seymour and Trudy Veitch were on hand to receive the cheque along with several beautiful samples of their handiwork, and they explained the funds will be used to get more supplies to make more quilts.

They said that since the Slave Lake wildfire happened in Alberta earlier this year they have been diligently making quilts for all those beds lost in the fire.  Many very appreciated donations of cotton fabric and quilt batting for the project have come from Barriere residents.

Local quilter, Judy Davis, is currently on her way to Slave Lake with 35 quilts from the Barriere group, and later in the week, local quilter Fran Abby, will be heading there with another 45 quilts.

The quilters say they are still busy sewing;  now making cancer quilts for folks in the Barriere area.
