Abandoned campfires still an issue for region

Six abandoned campfires were found in the Kamloops Fire District over the long weekend

Six abandoned campfires were found in the Kamloops Fire District over the long weekend causing great concern for officials.

A Kamloops Fire Centre spokesperson reported “The campfires were still hot to touch when found.  Had weather conditions been warmer or dryer this could have been a very large issue.”

Fines of $1,000 were given out for leaving a campfire, along with a number of tickets for having a campfire which is larger than a campfire.  Campfires must be no more than 1/2 metre by 1/2 metre.
