Be extremely cautious when approaching highway maintenance vehicles such as snow plows and salt or sand trucks. Maintain a safe following distance. These vehicles throw up snow and spray, making it difficult to see. Go to: DriveBC, #KnowBeforeYouGo, #ShiftIntoWinter Argo Road Maintenance photo:

Argo Road Maintenance held their 2018 Winter Awareness Stakeholder’s meeting on Nov. 21 in Little Fort, B.C. Attending were representatives from Argo, the Ministry of Transportation, the Districts of Clearwater and Barriere, Little Fort, the RCMP, the Barriere Radio Station (93.1 The Bear), and the North Thompson Star/Journal.

Norm Atkinson and Derrick Power from Argo led the meeting, going through their presentation and then fielding questions and comments from the floor.

They announced that all their trucks are being outfitted with large reflective signs on the back, making them more visible to anyone coming up behind them. These signs were used on the trucks covering the southern portion of the Coquihalla last year, and they noted the number of accidents involving the trucks on that stretch of road have been significantly reduced.

They also informed those at the meeting that DriveBC now has an option where you can request emails or texts with updates for any route you wish. The directions on how to get them is under their FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page on the DriveBC website.

Argo Road Maintenance currently has over 40 trucks and over 65 workers covering the Thompson Service Area. This area includes Kamloops, Barriere, Clearwater and Savona areas, and specifically:

• Kamloops south on Hwy 5 Coquihalla to the Walloper interchange

• Kamloops north on Yellowhead Hwy 5N to McMurphy Station north of Clearwater.

• Hwy 1 West, from 10 Km east of Cache Creek to Kamloops

• Hwy 1 East from Kamloops to Monte Creek Interchange

• Hwy 5A from Kamloops city boundary south to Stump Lake

• Hwy 24 from Little Fort west to Boundary Pit

They are not responsible for roads within the Municipalities of Kamloops, Sun Peaks, Barriere or Clearwater or any Forest Service roads.

Argo Road Maintenance would like to remind everyone that the best way to reach them is through their 1-800 line: 1-800-661-2025. This phone line is manned 24/7, every day of the year. Calls are passed to the applicable foreman, and non-emergency calls are stacked and passed to managers who receive an email showing the calls that were taken.
