The Barriere Health Centre is welcoming a new family doctor, Dr. Mark Akangoziri, who will join the clinic team on Monday, March 17 and residents will soon be able to make appointments to see him. This welcome increase in access to primary care services is reassuring to those living in the Lower North Thompson.
Upon hearing the announcement of the new doctor’s arrival on Monday March 10, District of Barriere mayor elect, Rob Kerslake, told the Barriere Star Journal, “Every step toward improving health care access is a big win for the community. Hopefully this helps more residents get the care they need without long waits or having to travel far. Welcome to the community Dr. Akangoziri.”
Patients who currently do not have a family physician will be attached to Dr. Akangoziri through the provincial Health Connect Registry. Residents who need a family doctor or nurse practitioner can register on the Health Connect Registry online at hcr.healthlinkbc.ca or by calling 8-1-1. People on the wait-list will soon be contacted to complete the intake process.
