Adam Kveton Photo Ballenas Secondary School 2017 grads head off on the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike, which was in Parksville on Wednesday, May 24. Parksville teams included the grads, the Parksville Chamber Champions and a group called Heart 2 Heart. Together, they raised thousands of dollars for the foundation. Next stops for the bike were Qualicum Beach and Campbell River on Thursday, May 25.

On Thursday, June 8, the Big Bike Ride fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation will take place in Barriere.

The bike riders will meet at Fadear Park in Barriere at 5 p.m.

Each rider comes with a pledge sheet that helps raise funds for the Barriere Big Bike Ride.

What is Big Bike?

It’s a heart-pumping, cheer-thumping, crazy big, fun ride!

For 20 minutes, 29 riders power one Big Bike. On event day, one of our drivers will accompany you as you pedal through your community and celebrate your accomplishments. While you pedal, you literally stop traffic to support critical heart disease and stroke research. But be warned: The minute you stop, you’ll want to climb right back on. It’s that much fun!

Why Fundraise?

Laugh with co-workers…Get some heart-pumping exercise in the middle of your day…And breathe fresh air… Riding a Big Bike feels good in so many ways! And nothing feels better than knowing you’re helping to fund research that’s saving lives and supporting heart disease and stroke survivors and their families.

You’re also helping us achieve our shared vision: Healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. And that’s for all of us — coast to coast.

Once you start fundraising, you’ll see that it doesn’t take a lot to make a difference: A good team goal to set is between $3,000 and $4,000. As an extra incentive, if your team raises $5,000, every member gets a medal. But that’s just the start of it: Last year more than 70,000 riders in over 200 communities across Canada raised over $8 million for research!

2017 will be mark Big Bike’s 24th awesome year! The Heart&Stroke Big Bike now raises more than $8 million each year to help fund critical research.
