North Thompson Valley rancher, Brenda Jones, sent in this photo of a new calf born on her ranch sporting red, white and black colouring.

Jones says, “We had this anomaly on the ranch this week. We have a tri-coloured calf born to a red and white cow. It is a hereford angus cross herd. I have been told it is likely a chimera, which is when the egg is fertilized twice like a twin, but it didn’t split.”

The dictionary says in Greek mythology, the Chimera was an awesome fire-breathing monster with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a serpent.
