Senator Nancy Greene Raine is getting her own stamp. The Sun Peaks director of skiing and Conservative senator is one of six female athletes commemorated in a new set of stamps from Canada Post. Greene Raine captured a gold and silver medal for women’s alpine skiing at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics. Over the course of her career she won 17 Canadian titles, 13 World Cup victories and three U.S. Ski Championships.

In a release, Canada Post credited her with putting the country on the map in alpine skiing.

“The women of these stamps have contributed to Canada beyond the medals they’ve won or the records they’ve broken,” said Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement. “As a group, they have been champions of accessibility, community-builders and thought leaders.”

Other athletes in the stamp series include Nordic skiers Sharon and Shirley Firth, wheelchair curler Sonja Gaudet, hockey player Danielle Goyette and Clara Hughes, who medaled at both winter and summer Olympic games in her sports of cycling and speed skating.

The stamps are available at retail Canada Post outlets and online at: www.canadapost.ca.
