On Oct. 5 at 9:45 a.m. the owner/operator of a local rafting outfit attended the RCMP detachment to report a break and enter at his business located on Eden Rd.
That morning at 12:45 a.m. an upstairs tenant was woken up as a male with a flashlight opened up his locked bedroom door and said “Oh s—t, someone is in here,” and immediately took off. The tenant did not call police, but advised the owner in the morning.
No description of the male was obtained other than he wore older style glasses. The owner checked the interior of the business and found an open door and that all keys for vehicles and C-Can were missing along with hundreds of dollars in change. The suspect male may have already had keys as no damage to any of the other doors was observed.
The suspect entered and exited through the main business door and appeared to go straight to the key cabinet. There are no fired or disgruntled staff and no neighbors to canvass.
Video surveillance from the only open business at the time was reviewed with no suspects identified. There was no forensic examination as employees have freedom to come and go taking keys for vehicles and C-Cans as required. The owner will change the locks on his business and C-Cans and will hook up his multiple camera surveillance system that has been awaiting installation. A file number was provided for insurance purposes. A verbal statement from the tenant was obtained. Extensive patrols were conducted. Investigation is ongoing.
Laptop computer stolen from vehicle
On Oct. 7, a 73-year-old female McBride resident called the detachment to report a theft from motor vehicle that had occurred the day prior while stopped at a café on Eden Rd. to have lunch
She had helped her elderly husband in to go to the washroom then got him seated at a table. When she went back to the car and shut the doors she forgot to lock them. The next day she noticed that her HP laptop was missing from the back seat. It was in a black case with a word find book, touch screen and was not password-protected.
She was called back and was provided the file number for insurance purposes. Cst. Meyer and Cst. Tobin attended the café and confirmed with the owner that there is no video surveillance outside of the building, only inside. Cst. Meyer obtained the vehicle information for the victim’s Ford Fusion, which was registered to her and her husband. She had her neighbor check her house to see if the laptop was forgotten there as she “…thinks it was probably in the car.”
The victim’s banking information was on the laptop so she changed her banking passwords and her bank advised that no one had attempted to use any of her banking information. She will contact police if the laptop is located at her residence.
Vehicle fire at Forests Ministry parking lot
On Oct. 9 at 5:00 a.m., Blackpool Fire and Rescue called the RCMP requesting assistance at a vehicle fire at the Ministry of Forests entrance to parking lot located next to Highway 5. Cst. Meyer attended to the scene and located no one inside vehicle. The vehicle was registered to a couple who reside on Petrol Road in Blackpool. No phone numbers located were available for the owner so Cst. Meyer attended to their residence. Cst. Meyer spoke with a female owner who advised her husband was at work and had left his vehicle parked at the Kamloops Charter airport parking lot. He was not due back for another week.
Police checks show that the vehicle’s licence plate was checked by police in Kamloops. There were reports of the vehicle observed at McDonalds and at a random park on Westsyde Rd. There was a male driver noted at the time but not identified.
Cst. Meyer obtained a portion of the melted VIN and confirmed it to be from the address on Petrol. Photos of the scene were obtained.
Extensive patrols were made in the area for potential suspects. A local tow company removed and stored the vehicle. Police advised the owners of the file number and to make a report to Kamloops RCMP to detail the exact location that the vehicle was stolen from. Blackpool Fire will advise Office of Fire Commissioner of file details. Investigation is ongoing.
