The District of Barriere (DOB) launched its Official Community Plan (OCP) refresh on Wed. Nov. 20 at the Seniors Society Centre inviting residents to drop-in to learn more about the project, discuss their questions with the project team from TRUE Consulting and provide feedback on one of the interactive poster boards on display.
“There was a good crowd of people that came by throughout the evening during the drop-in hours between 6:00 p.m. thru 8:00 p.m. Many participated and for those unable to attend we are hoping they will take the survey online," said DOB corporate officer, Tasha Buchanan.
Deputy mayor for Barriere Rob Kerslake was impressed by the evenings results, he said.
“The turnout at the Open House for the Official Community Plan Refresh was truly inspiring. Seeing roughly 100 community members of all ages come together to engage in meaningful discussions about Barriere's future was incredible," Kerslake said. "The level of engagement and input from our residents demonstrates how deeply everyone cares about our community. The feedback gathered as part of the event, and through the survey that’s available online right now, will form a crucial part of the ongoing process over the next year to update our OCP to reflect the collective vision and priorities of our community.”
The DOB website explains the purpose of an Official Community Plan (OCP) as: The primary long-range planning tool used by municipalities to guide their growth and development over a set period of time. The provincial government authorizes municipalities to adopt community plans pursuant to the provisions of Part 26 of the Local Government Act which states:
"An official community plan is a statement of objectives and policies to guide decisions on land use planning and land use management, within the area covered by the plan, respecting the purposes of local government."
