The emergency department at the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital will be con diversion overnight for over a week, according to a statement from Interior Health released Thursday at 4:32 p.m.

The ED will be closed for eight nights from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Aug. 11-18. During those eight days, the ED will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will return to 24-hour service at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19.

This is the second multi-day closure this month, including a diversion that spanned five nights from Aug. 3-7.

The health authority says the closure is due to staffing constraints.

Clearwater and area residents are encouraged to call 911 in the event of an emergency and ambulances will be routed straight to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops during closure hours. Those seeking medical attention can also visit Royal Inland Hospital, or call HealthLink BC at 811 if unsure of their medical care needs.
