UPDATED: ED overnight closures at Dr. Helmcken Memorial extended to Sept. 3

Friday, Aug. 26: An eight-day overnight diversion at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital has been extended to Sept. 3, according to a statement from Interior Health.

The emergency department at Dr. Helmcken was set to resume regular hours tomorrow morning (Aug. 27), but will now be closed from Friday, Aug. 26 to Saturday, Sept. 3 overnight.

The ED will be closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Aug. 26 to Sept. 2. The statement says the ED will resume regular hours at 7 a.m. Sept. 3.

If emergency services are required while the ED is closed, residents are reminded to call 911, call HealthLink BC at 811 if you are unsure of the need to seek emergency care or visit the ED at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops or 100 Mile House District General Hospital.

Friday, Aug, 19: Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital’s emergency department will be closed overnight spanning numerous days starting 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, according to a statement released by Interior Health at 10:49 a.m.

The ED will be closed, or on diversion, overnight for eight nights from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19 to Friday, 26. The department will return to regular hours 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.

During this time, all other inpatient services will continue as normal. The health authority notes closures are due to a lack of staff.

Interior Health “regrets this temporary change to normal operations.” If emergency services are required while the ED is closed, residents are reminded to call 911, call HealthLink BC at 811 if you are unsure of the need to seek emergency care or visit the ED at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops or 100 Mile House District General Hospital.
