On Friday, June 17, Gilbert Smith Forest Products Ltd. celebrated a milestone of achievement in recognizing nine years of “no time loss accidents” as of March 6, 2011.
GIlbert Smith general manager Greg Smith told the staff, “It’s amazing – nine years accident free! We look at our plant and we have to feel pretty proud. Safety is a key point of having a viable operation.”
Smith thanked the members of the Safety Committee and chairman Harley Wright, saying, “We’re celebrating this milestone accomplishment with the people who are responsible.”
He recognized that the Gilbert Smith woodlands have also remained accident free, and thanked the first aid crews in the bush who have helped to keep it that way.
The day’s celebration included a barbecue, some fun competitions for the workers, and a group photo.
Currently there are 63 on staff at the mill and eight part-timers.
