Gold medal for local youth

Barriere’s Alex McDonald and three team mates won gold in the ‘unofficial relay team’ event (a team of four youth from different countries and cities) on Jan. 28, during the International Children’s Games held Jan. 26-31, in Kelowna, B.C. McDonald competed with the Overlander Ski Club in cross country races, and set personal best times in the classic and skate events.

Barriere’s Alex McDonald and three team mates won gold in the ‘unofficial relay team’ event (a team of four youth from different countries and cities) on Jan. 28, during the International Children’s Games held Jan. 26-31, in Kelowna, B.C. McDonald competed with the Overlander Ski Club in cross country races, and set personal best times in the classic and skate events.

 He placed 10th overall in the weekend’s events that included  opening ceremonies, training days and two full days of racing. There were almost 500 youth from 39 countries at the games, with approximately 40 youth on teams from Canada, USA, Australia, and Slovenia competing  in the Nordic events.
