Interested residents of Barriere and the area are invited to attend an information session on Thursday, July 28, 2011 to learn about opportunities to become part of the local funeral home’s on-call team. Participants can choose to attend the session at 3:00 p.m., or the one at 7:00 p.m. at the Station House (Coral Reef Room). Refreshments will be served.
The main purpose of the meeting is to inform local residents of opportunities to work at the funeral home. These opportunities include helping out at memorial and funeral services, driving vehicles to various functions, assisting during sudden death situations or with trips to the local hospitals, and working on cremation-related matters. “There’s quite a range of skill sets required, so people can choose the job areas that might fit best for them,” said Drake Smith, Owner of North Thompson Funeral Services in Barriere. “We are looking for people who might feel comfortable supporting bereaved community members at the graveside, but we’re also interested in talking with people who might be more interested in assisting at the scene of a death, whether that’s in a home, a hospital, or just about anywhere. It’s important that people discover the different types of jobs available, and select a position that fits their needs and abilities. Previous experience is not required.”
The information session will cover subjects such as confidentiality, sensitivity, proper attire and the importance of providing service and care. Interested people will be asked to complete an application form outlining their availability and interest areas. All questions will be answered, followed by refreshments.
