Louis Creek traffic stop nets 23.5 lbs. of bud

On March 18, Barriere RCMP seized 23.5 pounds of marijuana bud during a traffic stop on Highway 5 in Louis Creek. The rental vehicle from Surrey was stopped for traveling 140km in an 80km zone around 8:45 p.m.

Once the officer was dealing with the driver, several indicators caused him to enter into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

The two occupants were arrested and the vehicle searched at which time the marijuana was seized. Both occupants face charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking.

In addition the vehicle was impounded under the new excessive speed legislation for seven days and the driver given a violation ticket.

Police also report there was some vandalism in Barriere committed by a person or persons unknown on Tuesday, Mar. 22.  Three cardboard recycling containers were pushed over next to the Fire Hall; two green garbage containers were ripped off of poles along Barriere Town Road; and some flower pots were smashed near the Sun Valley Gas Station.  Approximately $1,000 in damages in total.
