Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society announces decision to donate a total of $31,000 for 2013/14

The LNTCFS (Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society) is pleased to announce our decision to donate a total of $31,000 for 2013/14 to be disbursed as follows:

• $16,000 has been allocated to Barriere Secondary School for student awards (scholarships and/or bursaries), and

• $15,000 has been allocated for distribution through our grants program to local non-profit organizations.

Application forms and guidelines for community organizations are available at our office at 4648 Barriere Town Road, by email LNTCFSociety@telus.net, or through their website.  All applications received by Dec. 31, 2014 will be reviewed by the LNTCFS board members who will award the money to successful applicants.

On a related note, the LNTCFS Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the North Thompson Volunteer Centre located at 4936 Barriere Town Road (District of Barriere Building), at which time it is intended that Directors be elected for the ensuing year.   All members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Operations Update and Harvest Plan

Harvesting operations over the summer were focused in the Wikkiup Creek area of the community forest and consisted of rehabilitation of low volume cedar birch stands.  Stamer Logging, DRB Contracting, Rilcoe Contracting, and Salle Ranch were the contractors involved in these projects.

Site preparation (stump removal and piling) activities are currently active in the Lower Wikkiup area; Greg Fennell Contracting is completing this work.

LNTCFS Strategic Plan

In order to obtain input for the development of a strategic plan, a total of five facilitated community meetings were held in early 2014 throughout the Lower North Thompson Valley.

Since this time, LNTCFS Directors and staff have worked to utilize and compile the feedback obtained and we are pleased to announce that our Strategic Plan is now complete.  Please click here to view this important document as well as a summary of the input collected through the community meetings process.
