Residents of Barriere are more than happy this morning to learn that the municipal water system is once again hooked up to their main well DW2 and they are able to start irrigating their lawns and vegetable gardens. However, their is still a water advisory in effect until further notice.
The following notice was posted on the District website this morning at 9 a.m. May 31, 2019, after almost four months of water problems for those using the municipal water system when the main well went off line due to mechanic problems on Feb. 18, 2019.

The District is still advising people to refer to their UPDATED NOTICE - of Tuesday, May 28, 2019 that refers to what to expect when the main well comes back online which will take a little time to flush the dark water from all the lines.
The District also advises that until further notice the IMPORTANT NOTICE - of May 16, 2019 posted by the District of Barriere advising the well servicing the municipal water system at that time was showing over the Maximum Allowable Concentration (MAC) for manganese in drinking water, will remain in effect until further testing shows the manganese levels have lowered. Water showing levels over the MAC level for manganese should not be used as drinking water for certain at risk populations, specifically bottle-fed infants. Infant formula reconstituted (mixed) with tap water can be an important source of exposure to manganese for bottle-fed infants and Interior Health recommends that an alternate source of water be used to reconstitute (mix) infant formula. Those using the municipal water system who have an infant in your household should contact the District office for further instructions on how you can acquire bottled water if you need it.
