North Thompson communities of Barriere and Clearwater put on Flood Watch

The BC River Forecast Centre issued a flood watch on Saturday, June 11, for the North Thompson River, including tributaries around Barriere and Clearwater.

Residents in those areas living close to waterways are advised to make preparations to protect their home and property, and to have an evacuation plan in place should it be needed.

For information on what to do before, during and after a flood event, visit tnrd.ca/flood-preparedness.

In Barriere, sand bags and sand are available outside the Barriere Search and Rescue building next to the firehall on Barriere Town Road.

Sand bags in the Clearwater Area can be found at the Blackpool Fire Hall and Birch Island Park.

To find out where to pick up sand and sandbags in the TNRD use the Evacuation Status Map on the TNRD website: https://www.arcgis.com/…/5815bca37239492c98e4324daf5f955d

A high streamflow advisory issued Friday, June 10, for the Lower Thompson and Nicola Rivers remains unchanged at this time.

North Thompson residents are also encouraged to subscribe to the TNRD’s emergency notification system, Voyent Alert. Registration is free and anonymous. For more details, visit: tnrd.ca/emergency-alerts.
