Open burning prohibitions have been lifted within the Kamloops Fire Centre.
As of Sept. 18, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be permitted within the jurisdiction, as a result of a decreased risk of wildfires in the region.
The lift of the prohibition applies to all public and private land unless specified otherwise, such as in a local government bylaw.
Use of the following equipment or activities are also permitted – fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or cages, binary exploding targets and tiki or similar torches.
According to the release, to conduct a Category 3 burn, one must obtain an active burn registration number ahead of time, at no cost by calling 1-888-797-1717. That number will allow BC Wildfire Service to track open burning activity throughout the province.
