KAMLOOPS - The B.C. Conservation Officer Service is requesting the public’s assistance in their investigation into the illegal killing of nine eagles in the Kamloops area.
Eight Bald Eagles and one Golden Eagle were found in March with their heads, feet, tail feathers and wings removed. The eagle carcasses were discovered in a ditch near a well-used public road.
Under the Wildlife Act, it is an offence to possess, take, injure, or destroy an eagle or its eggs, or the nests when occupied by an eagle or egg. These recent poaching incidents threaten the safety of the eagle population and the public.
The Conservation Officer Service is currently investigating to find those responsible. The investigation is supported by the RCMP and the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc. The BC Wildlife Federation pay rewards up to $5,000 for information leading to the conviction of persons who have violated laws related to the protection of fish, wildlife or the environment.
