RCMP in Barriere warn residents about jewellery for gas money scam

Barriere RCMP state that on Aug. 11, they received a report of a group of persons attempting to sell jewellery at a gas station in Barriere. The suspects stated they were out of gas and attempting to travel out of province.

Barriere RCMP state that on Aug. 11, they received a report of a group of persons attempting to sell jewellery at a gas station in Barriere. The suspects stated they were out of gas and attempting to travel out of province.

The Barriere RCMP wants to warn the public that this is a common scam in which con artists sell fake jewellery to unsuspecting persons, claiming to desperately need money and offering the jewellery at a fraction of what equivalent real jewellery would cost.

The suspect(s) may even attempt to place the jewellery on the potential victim in order to distract them while pick-pocketing or taking the victim’s own jewellery without them noticing.
