RCMP investigates shooting in Barriere

Accidental shooting resulting in death under investigation

On February 20, 2012 at approximately 3:40 pm, the Barriere RCMP were contacted by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) to assist with a call of an accidental shooting at a residence near the community of Barriere, BC. A 61 year-old female was transported by BCAS to the Barriere Health Center and was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.

The South East District Major Crime Unit, Kamloops Forensic Identification Section, and BC Coroner Service are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of this female. No arrests have been made and the name of the deceased is not being released pending next of kin notification.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today. No further information is available at this time.

Police released the name of the deceased on Thursday, Feb. 23.  Carol Ann Sandercott, 61, of Barriere.
