Barriere resident Otto Kohnert was in the family’s kitchen when he heard a strange crackling, crunching sound from the living room.
On checking out what was going on he saw a very strange thing – one side of the glass door that opens to a deck outside, was completely shattered, but was still in the frame and no broken glass had fallen out.
Neither the family dog nor another person had been in the house at the time, and nothing had connected with the door from the outside.
The glass door is safety glass and is double paned; only the inside section was affected.
The Kohnerts are still puzzled about this incident, and wonder if perhaps someone has an idea what makes a perfectly sound pane of glass break into thousands of pieces, then not fall apart and remain solidly in its frame.
Visitors have suggested leaving the door as is, due to the fact that it looks decorative; but then the cold of winter may cause it to break all apart.
A few even say that a poltergeist may have been at work.
