The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and the Barriere Lions Club announced last week that they had joined together to hold a community event that all ages could enjoy in a safe and controlled environment.

The event will take place on June 14, and was originally touted to be the first ‘Pancakes and Cowboy Church’ event partnership between the Fall Fair and the Lions.

The event starts at 10 a.m. sharp and will be held in the parking lot of the Fall Fairgrounds in Barriere off Dunn Lake Road, and in front of the North Thompson Agriplex.

However, organizers have reported that on further checking with the current Interior Health regulations it was confirmed that although the Cowboy Church can take place, but no food can be served on the premises during the event.

“We are sad about this,” said one of the organizers, “It would have been fun to sit in your vehicle and enjoy a Lion’s breakfast while listening to the music of the Cowboy Church, but it is what it is. We are just advising everyone to bring their own snacks and drinks to enjoy in their vehicles.”

Another requirement that has been added is that those wishing to attend the Drive-In Cowboy Church must pre-register by calling Jane Milburn at 25-672-9391.

This will help in guaranteeing that no one is turned away at the gate once the Interior Health limit of 50 vehicles attending is reached. It will also provide a list of contacts should Interior Health need to follow up should someone in the area be diagnosed with the virus.

Similar to a drive-in movie theatre, people will sit in their vehicles while enjoying the music of an old fashioned Cowboy Church. Entertainers taking the stage will be Gordie West, Butch Falk, Spirit of the West’s Hugh McLennan, Bill Fowler, a guest Church Pastor. Admission is by donation at the Dunn Lake Road entrance gate and the 50 vehicle close off must be adhered to. Parking will be in pre-set up and well-spaced areas by the stage, people must stay in their vehicles, and washrooms will be available in the North Thompson Agriplex.
