Time to acknowledge the 2016 Business of the Year

Barriere and Area Chamber of Commerce now taking nominations for Business of the Year 2016

Marie Downing

Barriere Chamber of Commerce

This past summer was a busy one for the Barriere and Area Chamber of Commerce with our new name, logo, location and renovations. Our visitor numbers were good this year even with the relocation. The upgrades we did on the building look fantastic, with our new flag poles and kiosk board (maps) and we hope this encourages others to do “facelifts” to our downtown core as well. Please stop by and see our new office. As well we have a large boardroom available to rent for your workshops, luncheons or meetings. Just call the office to book.

We are now taking nominations for Business of the Year 2016. This year’s form can be found in the Star/Journal. Anyone can be nominated for this honour whether a Chamber member or not. Please submit your entries to the Chamber of Commerce office by Oct. 7. Please remember to put your reason for nomination. The nominations will then go to a private panel for voting.

This year’s entertainment and awards dinner will be held Oct. 22 at the Fall Fair Hall. We will again be having a full course dinner and our entertainment will be comedian Herb Dixon. Reserve your tickets early!

The Chamber website has also been updated and the new logo is in place. If you are interested in running an ad on our website – the cost is very minimal at only $300 per year. As well if you are interested in advertising on the kiosk board for only $75 per year.

This year’s Passport to Shopping sign-up sheet will be out in October, and it’s important to get these back to the office ASAP.

Most of you may have noticed the absence of the cowboy silhouettes. Due to the amount of damage from last year, we decided to not hang them this year.

And finally in closing, we would like to acknowledge the passing of Doug Edwards (residing in PEI since 2000 with wife Sandy). Doug was very involved in the community with minor ball, rec society, fire department as well as the Barriere Chamber of Commerce.
