TNRD approves annual grants for Search and Rescue

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors’ meeting held May 22

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors’ meeting held May 22, produced the following decisions:

The Kamloops, Logan Lake, NicolaValley, Barriere, and Wells Gray Search and Rescue Teams will each receive a $10,000 annual operating grant. The South Cariboo Search and Rescue Team was approved to receive a $3,325 annual operating grant. In addition, the following equipment and training grants were approved:

• Kamloops SAR — $24,456

• Wells Gray SAR — $20,046.53

• Logan Lake SAR — $1,688.27

• Barriere SAR — $1,612.33

Vicci Weller, the TNFC Film Commissioner, was approved to attend the Association of Film Commissioners International 2014 Cineposium in October in New York City. The Film Commissioner will market to NYC based film and commercial production companies and ad agencies.  The Film Commission will also be changing its URL addresses to create a better association between the websites and TNRD’s geographic location.

The contract for the construction of the new Clearwater Septage Receiving Station was awarded to Borrow Enterprises, Clearwater, for a maximum price of $830,886.53 plus taxes.

The Whitecroft Fire Protection Area Establishment Bylaw No. 2471 was given three readings. At the request of residents, and with approval from the Electoral Area Director and confirmation from the Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks that its fire department is willing to provide fire suppression service to the community of Whitecroft, a formal petition process requesting establishment of a fire protection service in 2015 was conducted. The petition process was successful and the bylaw was brought forward to the Board.

Westway Plumbing and Heating was awarded the contract for the supply and installation of new boilers in the TNRD Civic Building. The contract is for a maximum price of $135,605 plus taxes.

The Board approved $1,000 from the discretionary funds allocated for Electoral Area “E” to be granted to the Clinton Parade Committee.

Director Sternig will be attending the B.C. Rural Network Summit, scheduled for June 13 to 15 in Kaslo.
