Interior Health confirmed the Do Not Use Notice on the Vavenby Community Water System has been rescinded.
All users of the system can continue using their water as normal.
Water samples were taken from various locations near the water system intake after a semi-truck accident in the North Thompson River lead to a diesel fuel leak on Dec. 30.
Laboratory test results of the samples show the water system hasn’t been contaminated.
However, if users notice any changes in the water like a fuel odour or an oil-sheen, they’re advised to stop using the water and have their’s tested.
In general, surface water sources have a higher chance of external contamination and Interior Health recommends having your water tested regularly and installing treatment if necessary.
The Thompson Nicola Regional District said it’s thankful for the residents who made use of the bottled and bulk water that was provided at the Vavenby Fire Department to help keep the population safe during the Do Not Use Notice.
The TNRD added it appreciates the patience of the community and the cooperation of the various government agencies who
responded so quickly during this incident.
