Interior Health has established temporary visitor restrictions in response to a COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
As of Nov. 4, the RIH outbreak in unit 5S had 20 cases — 17 patients and three staff. The changes are effective immediately and only “essential visitors” are allowed to attend the site.
Essential visitors include:
- Visits for compassionate care, such as critical illness, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life and medical assistance in dying;
- Visits to patients in the emergency department or intensive care unit;
- Visits for pediatric care, labour or delivery;
- Visits necessary to support a patient’s physical care, (e.g., assistance with feeding or mobility), mental well-being or decision-making.
The health authority noted all services continue at RIH and it remains safe to visit for anyone needing emergency care.
