FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLAN #684 AMENDMENT 13 FOR THE HARVEST OF WILDFIRE DAMAGED TIMBER IN VISUALLY SENSITIVE AREAS ON THE EAST SIDE OF ADAMS LAKE

Tolko’s Southern Interior Woodlands has an approved Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) #684 that encompasses the Kamloops, Merritt and Okanagan Timber Supply Areas (TSA), Tree Farm Licence #49 and a portion of the Arrow and Boundary TSAs. Each of these areas are in a Forest Development Unit (FDU) where timber harvesting and road construction activities may occur under the plan.

This amendment is for the harvest of wildfire damaged timber in visually sensitive areas on the east side of Adams Lake in FDU 1-Kamloops. Due to the extent of the damage from the 2023 Bush Creek East wildfire, Tolko is proposing an amendment to the FSP for Visual Quality Objectives (VQO) that would allow for the harvest of damaged timber while varying from the established objectives to the extent practicable to harvest that timber within specified extents. The viewpoint locations applicable to this amendment are various viewpoints located along the west shore of Adams Lake and the Adams West FSR in between Brennan Creek and Skwaam Bay Recreation sites.

The public, stakeholders, First Nations and other interested parties may provide comments specific to Tolko’s planned amendment to Section 5.19.3 “Visual Quality in Scenic Areas with a VQO” of FSP #684. Consistent with the Forest Planning and Practices Regulation Section 20(2)(d) for the expeditious harvest of damaged timber, this notification period has been shortened to a 10-day period to allow for harvesting to commence as early as this spring. The proposed amendment will be available for Review and Comment from February 29th to March 15th, 2024 at Tolko’s offices listed below. Hours of viewing will be between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday excluding holidays*.
