PUBLIC NOTICE - FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING

Please be advised that the District of Barriere’s Utility Department will be conducting routine “flushing” of the entire Municipal Drinking Water Distribution System for the week starting Monday April 24 to Friday April 28, 2023 between the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

As a result of this process, you may encounter some discoloration, rust, or sedimentation and/or experience fluctuation in pressure. Rest assured the water has been properly disinfected and is safe for consumption. It is advised, however, to refrain from using both hot and cold water during these times to avoid pulling the discoloration, rust, or sediment into your house, laundry, fixtures, and appliances. You may wish to keep some drinking water on-hand to utilize during the flushing operation.

If you notice discoloration, wait until the operation is completed (after flushing hours) and then run your cold water starting from the first tap in your plumbing system, with the aerator removed, until the discoloration clears which should take about 15 to 20 minutes. If the discoloration continues, wait a little longer to allow settling of the rust/sediment, and then run your taps again.

Residents with a weakened immune system should reference the following HealthLinkBC information:

  • Weakened Immune System

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and cooperation. For any inquiries or concerns, please call the District office at 250-672-9751.
