Betty Alice Cox (nee Willis)

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Alice Cox in her 88th year on January 29, 2011 at The Hamlets at Westsyde. Betty was born on June 3, 1923 in Vancouver, B.C. to Alice and Fred Willis. She met the love of her life, Eric, while he was stationed in Vancouver during WW2. Betty followed Eric to Greenwood, B.C. where they started their life together. While in Greenwood they were blessed with two daughters, Crystal Schmidt of Calgary and Helen (Hugh) Fraser of Squam Bay.

In 1959 Betty and Eric moved their family to Nakusp to follow Eric’s employment as a logger. Through the years the forest industry took them to Lumby, Theodosa River, finally settling in Squam bay to be close to family.

After Eric’s passing in 1990, Betty moved to Barriere where she stayed until 2006 when she moved to Kamloops.

As a young woman Betty enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, hooking rugs and baking delicious bread. As time passed, she enjoyed reading, watching TV and eating ginger chocolates. Throughout Mom’s life there was always time for family.

Betty is survived by her daughters, her grandchildren Jennifer Fraser (Burke Nesjan), Heather Fraser (Chris Koch) and Alex (Diana) Fraser, three treasured great grandchildren, Julia and Amy Nesjan and Lee Fraser, brother-in-law Walter (Delcie) Cox, sister-in-law Bernice Cox and Joyce Cox, as well as a lifelong friend Gracia Williams and her husband Jack and their daughters, Pat Gerbrandt and Pam Jack, special niece Gloria Keogh and many nephews and nieces.

A special thank you to all of the caring staff at The Hamlets who made Mom’s final years bright. The care she received was exemplary. The staff at The Hamlets became her friends and she appreciated their attention. She often said they treated her like a princess. The family is very grateful to The Hamlets.

Should friends desire, donations to the charity of your choice in memory of Betty Cox would be appreciated.
