October 18, 1935 – August 17, 2011

Edith Hubich passed away peacefully, in her sleep, surrounded by the love of her closest family, at Forest View Place, Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital, Clearwater, BC. She was 75 years of age.

Edith lived in Barriere, BC, for 13 years, before moving to Forest View Place two years ago.

Born in Bethune, Saskatchewan, Edith is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hubich, of Barriere BC; son Kevin Hubich, of Barriere BC; granddaughter, Natasha Rhodes, of Calgary AB; granddaugher, Sara-Jane Hubich, of Calgary AB; brother, Tom (Dolly) Holt, of Regina SK; son-in-law, Gordon MacCullam, of Calgary AB, as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sigfred Hubich; son, Scott Hubic; her mother and father, Francis “Frank” and Florence (nee Curtis) Holt; her brothers Albert Holt, Donald Holt, Cecil Holt, Fred Holt, Ted Holt, Earl Holt and Lloyd Holt, and the twin boys who died at birth.

Growing up as the only girl of 10 brothers on a farm in rural Saskatchewan, Edith rode her horse seven miles to school every day.

She began her career as a telephone operator in Bethune, Saskatchewan, before moving to BC to pursue business ventures with her husband, Sig. Together, they owned and operated many successful businesses, including greenhouses, hardware stores and most famously the BARGAIN BARN in Surrey, BC.

Edith loved all things in life, especially the outdoors and animals. From horse racing to markets and music, socializing with friends and spending quality time with her family. She spent many hours catering to her gardens and enjoying the fresh air. Through the chapters of her life on the farm, the acreage in Surrey, and finally settling in Barriere, her yard was her sanctuary and a place of peace and joy.

A character of many attributes, Edith was nonetheless a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, positive and full of life, stubborn as hell, with a sense of humor like none other.

Surviving and experiencing many hurdles in life, she always pursued, and has continued that legacy through all that knew her.

Edith will be deeply missed, but know that she is now in peace with husband and son, watching down upon all that she left behind.

A funeral for Edith Hubich took place on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Royal Heights Baptist Church, Surrey, BC, with Pastor Alan Braun officiating. Edith was then laid to rest beside Sigfred and Scott at Valley View Memorial Cemetery, Surrey, BC.

Arrangements entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Barriere, BC. Condolences may be expressed on-line at wwwNorthThompsonFuneral.com.
