Edward McBurnie

July 18, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce on July 18, 2007, Edward “Eddy” McBurnie passed away after a courageous journey with cancer.

At the time of his passing, Eddy was on vacation visiting his in-laws, nephews and nieces in Ontario with his wife, Wendy and daughter, Tylar. He gently slipped away in his sleep in the arms of his loving wife.

Ed is survived by his wife and his little “Dolly”; father and mother David and Sandra McBurnie, sisters Debbie (Brad) Dalke, Carrie (Dave) Smeaton, of Kamloops, brother Bob (Tara) McBurnie, of Calgary, nieces Sarra, Katee, Megan and nephews Taylor, Brady, Jordan. Of Ontario, father-in-law and mother-in-law Alex and Lois Boyter, brother-in-law Tom (Tara) Boyter, sister-in-law Janette (Rob) Della Penta, nieces Bhrett, Berlynn, Halcyon and nephews Justin, Liam. Ed had many aunts, uncles and cousins and countless friends.

Ed was born in Powell River, BC, March 7th, 1969 and moved to Kamloops in August 1976. Ed attended Brock Senior Secondary School where he graduated in 1988. Through school and after graduation, Ed had his own rat pack of special friends, Scott (Whooly), Steve (Steven Weven Puddin Even) and Troy (Tee-roy). Ed met his soul mate Wendy in November 1997 and in August 1999 felt completed with the birth of their baby girl Tylar Soda. In June 2006, Wendy received a transfer through the RCMP to Barriere which they had now called home. On July 15th, 2007, Ed and Wendy celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary at the go-cart race track, batting cages and a round of mini putt.

Ed was a kind and loyal friend and had a terrific sense of humour that could entertain any crowd. He had a unique talent for sports statistics and music trivia. Ed enjoyed all sports with a passion for hockey, golf and baseball. Ed was a constant supporter to the lotteries and casinos and many retail stores for sunglasses and t-shirts. He was a devoted employee as a Letter Carrier to Canada Post in Kamloops and for a short time as a Corrections Officer for KRCC prior to his illness.

Ed touched every heart that he came in contact with, validated by the continuous support shown to him over this past year.

Ed fulfilled many of his dreams and was re-energized the day he brought home his 2007 Harley Davidson Night Train. Ed was a true inspiration and will be deeply missed.

A very special thank you to cousin Sandra Ormrod for her dedication and constant supply of herbal tea. Ed wholeheartedly believed it helped him and he expressed often how grateful he was.

Thank you to Dr. Jennifer Takahashi for her kindness, her softness and her grace. Ed truly felt a connection with you.

Thank you to Dr. Scott Carson. Words cannot express what a great friend you are. Eddy loved you.

Memorial Services were held at the Calvary Community Church, on Saturday, July 28th. Reverend Ray Parker officiated. In tribute to Ed, casual sport theme attire was worn.

As Ed wished for additional sporting activities available for Tylar, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Ed McBurnie Sports Memorial Fund”, PO Box 585, Barriere, BC, V0E 1E0. Contributions will be used for future funding of local sporting activities and facilities in the town of Barriere.
