January 19, 1937 - March 14, 2022
It is with great sadness that on March 14, 2022 that we lost a special lady, Florence "Curly" DeBodt (nee Gatehouse). She was born January 19, 1937 in Kamloops.
She is predeceased by her husband, Frank; her siblings Tommy, Kit and George; her parents, Tom and Sis; and her nephew Russ.
She is survived by her younger sister, Jean; her nieces: Joan (Tom), Glenda (D'Arcy) and nephews Ken (LaVerne) and Scott (Raeanne), and numerous great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews. Her stepchildren, Ron (Deleena), Al (Donna), Iris and Colleen and grandchildren.
Curly grew up on the Old Place in Barriere, BC. In her early adult life, she moved to Kamloops and worked at Safeway. She moved back to Chinook Cove, to care for her parents on the family farm. Curly's caring heart also allowed her to look after both her niece Joan and nephew Russ. The high school in Barriere eventually gained her as a janitor. She loved her job and the students loved her! She worked at BSS until
she retired.
Curly met her true love, Frank later in life. Together, they loved going camping, fishing and spending time outdoors.
Curly always had a house full of visitors, candy and love! She loved going to the Fall Fair every labour day weekend to watch the rodeo. You could also find her at the Legion, especially on meat draw days.
Curly spent her final years at Kamloops Seniors Village and Ponderosa Lodge.
We would like to thank all the staff at both places for the incredible care that she received.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 28,2022 at the Barriere Seniors Centre at 1pm.
