George Edwards

George Edwards of Kamloops BC, passed quietly to his rest from old age in his 92nd year on February 21, 2007, at the Kamloops Seniors Village, with his son Roderick and daughter in-law Lynda by his side.


He will be lovingly remembered by his children Roderick (Lynda) Edwards of 100 Mile House BC, Airlie (Allen) Fowler of Sherwood Park AB, Kenneth (Grace) Edwards of Kamloops BC, Dennis (Marne) Edwards of Kamloops BC, and Dorothy Rycz of Chetwynd BC; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brothers Kenneth, Robert, and James; and sister Joan (Clayton).


George was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1997, after more than sixty years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his brothers Harold, Douglas, William, and Richard, and by his sister Florence Newman.


George Edwards was born in Vernon BC on June 14, 1915, the fourth child of eight boys and two girls. He married Margaret McIvor at the settlement at the north end of Adams Lake on October 15, 1936. George was working his trapline at the time and Margaret accompanied him until her pregnancy and the birth of her first child.


George fought with the Calgary Highlanders during World War II and was wounded in Belgium. He spent a year in hospital in England and returned home in 1946. He worked as a logger and pole maker, taking great pride in his work. George retired to his home at Dixon Valley, near Barriere, in 1986. George passed quietly


The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Clarence Colp officiating. George’s cremated remains will be scattered at his beloved Johnson Lake at a later date.


Memorial donations in George’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, box 277, Stn. Main, Kamloops BC, V2C 5K6. Flowers gratefully declined.
