January 29th, 1934 – August 18th, 2015

Herb Gawehns passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops on August 18th, 2015 at the age of 81.

Herb will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Heidi and son Mark (Rina) of Maple Ridge and will be dearly missed by his grandson Lukas.

Herb was predeceased by his wonderful, loving wife Leslie in 2003.

Herb was born in Germany and followed his dream of moving to Canada as a teenager, making his way from Ontario to the Interior where he spent many years as a cowboy and rancher. Herb met the love of his life while working for the Quilchena Cattle Company and they moved to Barriere in 1984, making a home in the area that they grew to love and made many lifelong friendships.

Herb loved fishing, hunting, camping, curling, card games, and woodworking and took an active interest in his children’s hobbies and activities. When the Barriere golf course opened up, he renewed his interest in golf and it turned into a passion that built many friendships; some of his happiest days were on the golf course and going on golf excursions with his friends and family.

Herb valued the simple things and often commented he would not change his life for anything.

A heartfelt thanks to all of the staff of Five North at RIH who go above and beyond for all in their care.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.heartandstroke.com

A celebration of life will be held at his Barriere home at 11:00 am on Sunday, September 13th, 2015.
