Howard Trueman Beharrell peacefully passed away on October 29, 2009, at the young age of 90 years, after a brief stay in Royal Inland Hospital.

He was born in Matsqui, BC, to Lloyd and Roselle on September 14, 1919, the only son of five children.

Howard is survived by the love of his life three days short of their 62nd anniversary, Florence; sisters and brother-in-law, Charlotte, Eileen, June, and Alice (Ian); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice, Lucille (Louis), Leona, Carol (David), and Joyce (Jim); children, Charleen (Bernie) –Kamloops; Ken (Sylvia) – Barriere; Karen (Jim) – McLure; Gary (Lisa) – Kamloops; grandchildren, Shawn (Denise) – Kamloops, Tricia (Scott) – Kamloops, Dannielle – Tecumseh, ON, Westly (Amy) – London, ON, Daraleigh – London, ON, Amber (Jesse) – Kamloops, Christan (Katrina) – Kamloops, and Justan – Kamloops,; great-grandchildren, Martine, Shellene, Ethan, Tasia, Kaden, Sophia, Lori-Anne, and Riley; and great-great-grandson, Blake – all of Kamloops.

Howard spent his entire life involved with cattle and his horses.

Having grown up on a dairy farm in the Fraser Valley, he found paradise in Darfield, in the North Thompson Valley in May 1951.

He continued raising and milking dairy cattle, and commenced raising beef cattle.

He was an agent for Mutual Fire Insurance Company from the mid-1950’s to about 2005.

As a young lad, Howard belonged to the Ridgedale Rod & Gun Club earning Marksmanship awards, including achieving third in the 1948 Dominion finals.

He was a high achiever in ploughing matches, played lacrosse, and was a gymnast for a short time.

Howard was a member of the North Thompson Fall Fair Association; a trustee of the District #25 (Barriere) School Board; a member of the Barriere United Church; a leader of the Boulder Mt 4-H Dairy Club, and had a passion for square dancing.

Howard always had a border collie at his side, and was a great horseman, riding until he was 88 years young. He had a great love for nature and people.

A memorial was held for Howard on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Barriere Pentecostal Christian Life Assembly, Pastor Robert Daum officiated.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Howard Beharrell Memorial Fund for an agricultural bursary through Thompson Rivers University Foundation.
