May 2, 1944 – February 10, 2011

On Thursday, February 10, 2011, after a short, heroic struggle with cancer, Jesus called our dear Judith home.

Judith is survived by her sisters Gwen and Christine in England, and her sister Jennifer in Vancouver.  Judith was predeceased by her sisters Margurite and Maureen and her parents Percy and Ethel Jones.

Judith was born in England, the youngest by far of six sisters.

As a child, she spent time with her aunt and grandparents at their country homes and went to school in the Midlands.  As Judith grew, her roving spirit for adventure led her to Africa, Peru, Mexico and eventually to making Canada her home.  Jay spent several years in Logan Lake before moving to Vancouver, where she managed the Vancouver Press Club for 13 wonderful years, before moving to Kamloops and eventually settling in Barriere.

Our Jay was a very social person, who formed many great and lasting friendships over the years.  Jay was active in her church and community.  She canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, did Hospice work in Barriere and helped many people by driving them to appointments and such.

Jay’s hands were never still.  She cross-stitched, embroidered, crocheted, but mostly knitted, for charity and for the love of giving something well-made away.

Jay was the best friend a person could ever hope to have.  This beautiful, loving, giving, generous of spirit soul is now one more angel in Heaven.

Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Gillis House Palliative Care Unit in Merritt.

By request, no flowers please.

Donations may be made in Judith’s memory to the Cancer Association or to Gillis House, 1699 Tutill Court, Merritt, B.C., V1K 1C6.
