Joan Denman Shaw was born November 20, 1924. Joan passed away December 17, 2006 at Vancouver, BC. Wife of DMC Shaw; mother of Joscelyn (Barriere), Hedley and family (Calgary), Rosalind and family (Kamloops), Gillian and family (Vancouver), Siobhan (Kelowna) and 10 grandchildren. Sister Babs McLeod and family (Wisconsin) and numerous cousins in Ontario.
Joan was the eldest daughter of R.O. and Douglas Denman of Hamilton, Ontario. She joined the Canadian Army on her 18th birthday and was commissioned as a lieutenant before age 21. She met Donald over an Airedale. She was a Girl Guide leader in Williamstown (Glengarry County); to hereford farming on the shores of the St. Lawrence at South Lancaster; to the ranch near Barriere.
She was a member of PEO Chapter AU (Kamloops); lifelong member of the UCW Williamstown, Ontario. President of the VON for Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry. Joan was also a member of the Barriere Food Bank.
