ValMarie Johnson passed away at Ponderosa Lodge, Kamloops, BC, after a lengthy illness; she was 94 years of age. Christened Valmire Germaine Belley in Legal, Alberta, ValMarie was the youngest of 11 children born to Pierre and Alzire Belley (née Demers). ValMarie was predeceased by her parents and her 10 siblings.
Mourning ValMarie’s passing are her son, Gary Forsythe (Trudy) of Barriere, BC; daughter Lori Forsythe of Kamloops, BC; grandson Luke Forsythe (Britt); great granddaughters Saphira (19 months old), Sophia (four months old) of Taylor, BC; granddaughter Leneaya Bromley (Giriish), great granddaughter Jessamie (four months old) of Valemount, BC, plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In 1993, ValMarie moved from Smithers, BC to Barriere, BC. She resided in the same apartment until March of 2009 when she moved into the Yellowhead Pioneer Residence. She loved her new apartment and enjoyed the many activities there. Her favourite activity was the chair bowling, and she looked forward to it. She had a fall in January 2010 and fractured her hip. She was unable to return to her home and moved to the Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.
ValMarie made friends easily and cared more for their wellbeing than her own at times. Anyone who knew ValMarie has a special place in their heart for her. She touched something inside of anyone she met. ValMarie had a wonderful sense of humour and loved life. She adored her family and showed it every day. She was a special Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who will be missed very much. We love you Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma.
A Memorial Service for ValMarie Johnson took place on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Church of St. Georges, Barriere, BC, with Father Donal O’Reilly presiding.
