Margaret Gagnon (nee Irvine) of Barriere, B.C., passed away on March 11, 2010, at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital, Clearwater, B.C., after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on June 29, 1939 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Margaret is survived by her husband, Edward Gagnon, of Barriere, B.C.; twin sister Iris Miller of Thunder Bay, ON; brother Roy Irvine of Devon, AB; sister Yvonne Gowdy of Island Magee, N. Ireland; brother Ray Irvine of Carrick Fergus, N. Ireland; brother William Irvine of Whitehead, N. Ireland; her children Leonard Gagnon of Innisfail, AB, Ian Gagnon of McKenzie, B.C., Kelly Gagnon of Bon Accord, AB; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Margaret came to Canada in 1957. She joined the RCAF in 1958, where she met Edward Gagnon. They were married in November, 1959. They lived in Kamloops, B.C., from 1959 until 1985.

Margaret worked as a legal secretary in Kamloops for 10 years and also as a bank secretary for 10 years. She spent 20 years as a Girl Guide leader.

Margaret loved to dance, sew, and she enjoyed children. She also liked to sit in the back yard with her much loved dogs listening to good music and relaxing with friends.

From 1985 until 1995, Margaret worked in real estate in Cambridge, ON, Edmonton, AB, and she did volunteer work with the RCMP in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

Margaret was also a hunter and totally loved the mountains and wilderness; camping with her children, friends and husband.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, her sense of humour and the sound of her laughter will not soon be forgotten.

A Celebration of Margaret Gagnon’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Barriere, B.C.
