Melvin Spooner, loving husband and father, passed away suddenly on March 4, 2010, near his home in Barriere, BC. He was taking part in one of his favourite activities, walking the dogs, when he was overcome by a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Jean, 7 children and step-children: Roy (Laurie), Marty, Melody, Ken (Marlene), Donna, Pat (Carolyn) and Marilyn (Gerry), 26 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his sister Isabel, brothers Jim (Fran) and Dick, and his puppy, Tracy.

Mel was born on February 14, 1937 in Smithers, BC and lived many happy years in Quesnel and area. His work in the logging industry took him to Bridesville, 100 Mile House, Midway, Anahim Lake and finally to Barriere. Mel was a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed camping, fishing, helping his friends and neighbours and walking his dogs. He was very proud of his large family and enjoyed his time with them.

Poem for Service Card:

Do not weep for me when I am gone,

For I have friends in the great beyond.

All the little ones I used to feed

Will come to me in my time of need.

They will purr and bark in great delight.

And I will hold and hug them tight.

Oh, what a great day that will be

When my furry friends all welcome me.
