MILDRED CURTIS (GENIER)

Mildred Curtis, age 96 died at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 30, 2009.  She was born on March 31, 1913 in Kamloops, to North Thompson pioneers Gilbert and Adeline Genier.  Upon completion of elementary school in Barriere she attended St. Ann's Academy in Kamloops.  In l945 Mildred moved to the United States and became a registered nurse. 

 In December of 1972 Mildred married Carl T. Curtis, a United States Senator from Nebraska.  For the next seven years they divided their time between Nebraska and Washington D. C.  In 1979 Mildred and Carl left political life and retired in Lincoln Nebraska. 

 

Mildred was predeceased by her husband Carl in 2000.  Also predeceased by sisters Orie Stevens, Tess Alder, Jean Gilbert and Tilly Bowland, brothers Wilfred Genier, Joseph Genier, Arthur Genier and Alexander Genier.  Survived by many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. 

 Mildred would always grace our family gatherings in Kamloops and Barriere.  She was very supportive of her family and never forgot her roots. 

 A graveside service was held in Minden, Nebraska on August 5, 2009.
