In Loving Memory ~
It is with deep sorrow that the Andrews family announces the passing of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Myrtle Isobel "Micki" Andrews, on September 23, 2022 after a short illness.
Micki was predeceased by her parents Archie Brooks and Edith Brooks nee Hollamby, brothers Jack, Harry, Alan and Michael, sisters Edith and Ivy, and granddaughter Allison.
She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Glenn Andrews of Barriere, sisters Betty Wolff of Barriere and Margaret McEachreon of Saint John, NB, son Gary Hickey (Kate) of Airdrie, AB, daughters Dawn Neufeld (Dale) of Okotoks AB, JoAnne Hickey of Chilliwack, Cindy Andrews (Kevin Eustache) of Barriere, Beth Bergen (Sterling Oakey) of Airdrie AB and Kathryn Andrews (Adam Lefloch) of Mission.
Micki is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Micki was born and raised in and around Saint John, NB. After leaving school, the first time, she worked in various offices as clerk and typist, where she acquired her nickname. She moved to BC in 1969 and to Barriere, in particular, in 1972.
As a girl she joined the Girl Guides and remained as a leader of both Brownies and Guides for significant periods in both Chilliwack and Barriere into the 1990s. So, to many she was simply known as Brown Owl.
She was a foster parent to two adolescents in the early 1980s, ran the Sunshine Circle play school with friends, and worked for a dozen years as a School Support Worker in both Kamloops and Barriere.
She was active in the life of her church in many ways, and after retirement busied herself with her many craft hobbies, and some interesting travel. She will be missed deeply by her beloved family and devoted friends.
Both a funeral and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am in the Church of St. Paul, Barriere. As the church is relatively small and the family relatively large we would request that the venue be reserved for family, her church family and a small number of guests from out of town. Those friends, colleagues, neighbours and those whose life she touched who wish to remember Micki in person are invited to attend the celebration of life to be held shortly after the funeral in a venue yet to be determined. A further announcement of that venue will be forthcoming. And for that please wear colours.
Arrangements are being made by Drake Funeral Services
