Nicholas “Nicky” Robert Grummett

October 13, 2005

The loving family of Nicholas “Nicky” Robert Grummett is saddened to announce the sudden tragic passing of this amazing son and brother on Oct. 13, 2005 in the Royal Inland Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Even though Nicky was only 15 years old, born on Dec. 21, 1989 with twin brother, Lindsay, he was known to family, friends and the community of Barriere to be wise beyond his years. Nicky displayed the compassionate ability to see the need for volunteering and fundraising at a very early age. In elementary school he organized fundraising for the food bank, which he continued to support.

Family and friends will always remember this incredible young man being involved in a wide range of sports in the communities of Barriere and Clearwater, B.C. An avid hockey player and motor cycle enthusiast, Nicky also played rugby, golf, and baseball with his brother Lindsay by his side. Nicky was an honour roll student, an accomplishment that his family was also very proud of.

Kathleen, his mother, brothers Dusty (19-years-old) and twin brother Lindsay (15-years-old) along with Nicky have been coping with the recent loss of their husband and father — Colin “Grumpy” Grummett who passed away a few months ago. Because of this the family is acutely aware of the sincere community support that has surrounded them during this time of family tragedy. They would like to express their loving appreciation to everyone who has reached out in any way to assist them through this difficult time of loss. Especially, the family would like to thank the wonderful staff in the ICU at Royal Inland, with a special acknowledgment to Nicky’s nurse, Kathleen.

Nicky’s life will go on giving due to his contribution as an organ donor — a comfort to his mother and brothers, who encourage others to do the same.

A memorial service was held on Oct. 22, 2005, at the North Thompson Fall Fair Grounds to celebrate Nicky’s energetic, productive and giving spirit.

Donations in Nicky’s memory can be made to the B.C. Transplant Society, call toll free in Canada at 1-800-663-6189.
