Raymond Joseph Normand

April 30, 2008

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that our father and grandfather Raymond Joseph Normand of Barriere, B.C. passed away April 30, 2008 in Kamloops, B.C.

Survived by his daughter Edna (Don) Rathbone of Barriere; grandchildren Suzanne (Don) Bradley of Surrey and Ron (Mary) of Mission. Great-grandchildren Donnie, Nicholas and Kailee. Also by his foster daughter Lise (Emile) Laderoute of Terrace, B.C. There are many nieces and nephews who will also miss Uncle Ray. He was loved and will be missed by so many.

Predeceased by his loving wife of more than 45 years, Mary Violet in January 1991, and an infant son in 1947. Also by his brothers Emile and Wilfred and sister Toni.

Raymond was born in St. Rose, Manitoba on November 17, 1917. He settled in Port Alberni in the early 1940’s, where he met and married the love of his life Mary Violet.

After his retirement in 1972, they moved to Barriere, B.C. to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

He will always be remembered for his loving and giving nature, his wonderful smile, and willingness to always lend a hand. He had a huge heart and no one stayed a stranger for long. One of his favourite pastimes was entertaining out of town guests. He was known to always have an open door and would have given the shirt off his back to help someone.

A man of integrity and honesty, he will be greatly missed and has left a huge void in our heats. Our only solace is that he is now with his soul mate.

As per his wishes, there will be no local service but rather at a later date, he will be laid to rest beside his wife in Port Alberni with friends and family in attendance.

Any questions regarding this can be directed to his granddaughter at bbwvixen@shaw.ca.
