Wilbur Edward Young

July 25, 2007

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Wilbur at the age of 75 years. Wilbur is survived by brothers Ken (Val) Young and Irvine (Barb) Young and sister Joyce Butters. Children Lorrie (Randy) Delong, Terry (Kathy) Freiheit, Kelly (Karen) Freiheit, Wayne (Rhonda) Young. Grandchildren Mitchell, Melissa, Sara, Taylor, Nathan, Nicole, Precious, Brandy, Jennifer.

Wilbur was predeceased by his Loving wife of 37 years Myrna, father William Young and mother Hazel Young.

Wilbur was born in Toronto, Ontario. His family moved to Melfort, Saskatchewan, he loved living there on the farm and when he was in his teens he returned there for awhile to work with his uncle, after the family moved to Ioco, BC.

One of his first jobs was on an oil tanker for Esso, which he stayed with until he retired at age 55. When he met Myrna the love of his life they lived in Port Coquitlam for a few years then moved to Campbell River where they liked to go on many fishing trips, but their favourite place was their log house on forty acres in Little Fort where they cross country skied, built a little one hole golf course, and went for long walks enjoying the wildlife that would pass through their property. Every year they looked after a family of deer which called their place home for the winter. As time passed, they moved to Barriere where they had many good friends.

They loved to golf and every summer they would go on golfing holidays in their fifth wheel along with friends. Dad loved everything about curling, even watching it on TV for hours.

Pot luck dinners and playing cards with friends were among the many things they enjoyed doing.

They had many happy years together.

Dad became a very talented woodworker, making furniture and yard ornaments for all his family and friends. Passing through Barriere, you could always spot their home because of the three black bears he made for their fence. We love you Dad and miss you very much.

The family would like to thank Dr. Baker and the nurses on third floor at Ponderosa Lodge for their exceptional and loving care of Dad and all of Mom and Dad’s friends for their support.
